✨ Step Into Your Power 🌙

Writer's picture: Chelsea MahalaChelsea Mahala

First, I want you to take a deep breath with me. Deep breath in, feel the air fill your lungs. Can you breathe in deeper than you thought? How much air can you breathe in?

Now slowly release the air, really pay attention to how it feels to allow the air leave your lungs and mouth. Feel that simple power of breathing, really focus in on it.

If it helps close your eyes and take a deep breath, and release.

Your body does this all by itself. You don't have to think about breathing throughout the day. How amazing is that? Your body is already amazing! And should be cherished.

Confidence.

Power.

How do we step into our power? How do we find our confidence?

This is something that I have struggled with and I know that even now as I'm about to turn 28; I am still on this journey of finding who I am, who I want to be, and stepping into the power that I have inside.

First of all, this is a process. This is a journey. This is not something that is going to happen over night, or over a weekend. Even once you hit your highest point, there will still be ebbs and flows.... Lows and Highs....

That is completely okay!

My story has had many ups and downs. Figuring out who I am especially while being within the beauty industry has been hard for me.

For starters, I have never been a high maintenance person. I didn't like putting on makeup, I didn't want to have to style my hair everyday. My clothing was very grab and go... I never really thought about how to pair items together.

It was all a little confusing and a world that I didn't understand.

And still to this day I am exploring makeup.

I am learning how to style myself.

I am expanding my clothing choices and figuring out how to pair things together.

I am discovering what I like and what makes me feel confident and powerful.

Being in the beauty industry it is very common to be told that "You have to wear makeup everyday" "You have to dress nicely because you'll be judged" "You have to make sure your hair is perfect everyday."

These are the things that would make me feel like the outcast at the salons I have worked at.

I love my nature curl and all the forms it takes from freshly washed beautiful curls.... to a slept on messy look. That is how I prefer my hair to look, I don't like curling my hair everyday or having it sleek everyday. That's just not me and I felt like if I didn't have my hair done perfectly then I wasn't seen as a "good" hairstylist.

I had a very bad relationship with makeup, so when people would tell me that I needed to wear make up it hit me very hard. I felt good without makeup, I didn't feel like I needed it. Having someone tell me that I couldn't do my job well without makeup.... broke me a little.

Now that I have a better relationship with makeup.... I do wear eyeshadow and eyeliner everyday to work... Not because I HAVE to.... but because I want to... It makes me feel fierce. It gives me power and more confidence.

And of course on my days off... You will find me without makeup and I don't feel ashamed for it.

Fashion wasn't a thing for me either. I didn't care. I also wasn't a morning person so I never had the time to really think through my clothing choices. It was always grab and go.

I now have the great opportunity to learn about clothing and how much power they can have in your life. I also give myself time in the morning to get ready, I have time to sit on the couch and be with my pups in the morning. I have time to really prep myself for the day.

-HINT- You do not have to get up at 5am to be productive. My days start at 8am and end at 2am, that's still a long day that I can make amazing things happen.

I'm not a morning person and I'm done fighting it.

I have my boyfriend to thank for this part of my journey, because he would always get ready for the day. Even if we were sitting on the couch all day. I started to do that as well, everyday I would make sure that I was ready for the day.

And for me, this helped a ton. I felt better about myself with each day that I took the time to get ready.

Now I still have my potato days that I give to myself and allow myself to just be. Whether I want to wear a big hoodie all day, or sweats. Sundays are my potato days 💙

All in all.

Gaining confidence, finding your power....

It's an action. You do have to take action, waiting won't get you anywhere.

I know you are powerful. I know you can do anything you set your mind to it!

So do it!

Step into your power!

Create the life you want!

Be who you desire!

I believe in you.
