Ice Moon Self-Care: Meditation
The Ice Moon comes while we are still in the throes of winter. It’s cold. It’s dark. Nature is still sleeping under a blanket of snow. But things are beginning to change.
The days are slowly getting longer. Buds of life are starting to prepare. Spring is ahead. So where does that put you? What should you be doing?
My answer for you is: Meditate.
It’s not time to be acting on plans or taking on new adventures. Though those times are coming, just as spring is. For now, it is time for you to sit with yourself and meditate.
The Must-Have’s and How-To’s of Meditation
I know for many, myself included, the thought of meditation is daunting. It feels like something you have to get exactly right or some cosmic power will strike you down. It can feel like you have to
have all the perfect tools and clothes and space and sounds and posture. But when it really comes down to it, meditation is a lot more flexible than we all believe.
Sure you can gather the perfect yoga mat and yoga clothes and crystals and incense and chanting music while sitting perfectly cross legged in the most beautiful corner for hours. That is incredible and beautiful and valid. But meditation can also be taking a quick five minutes locked in the bathroom laying in an empty bathtub while your kids are distracted by a cartoon dog blasting on the tv while wearing the same ratty t-shirt and sweats you’ve been wearing for the last three days.
Meditation is about intentionally taking time to connect with yourself. To connect with your body. Your mind. Your heart. Your breath. Intentional connection is a must. The where and how is not.
So whether you like to sit or stand or sprawl out on your back. Whether you want silence or some sort of music surrounding you. Whether your goal is to clear your mind and count your breaths or to slowly check in on each part of your body from head to toe. Do what feels right to you. Do what you need at that moment. But do it. Take that intentional time to connect with yourself. Allow yourself to slow down. Allow yourself to just be.
Remember. You deserve to care for yourself, inside and out. Take that time. You are incredible. You can do it. Have a wonderful Ice Moon! I love you.
