Fantasy colors and temperature of water
Ever since I started hair school in 2017 and fell in love with fantasy colors.
Also known as - Fashion colors, Vivids, Mermaid color, Rainbow color, etc…
I was told that washing your hair in cold water is the best way to keep the color longer. Well, I have finally tested that out to see if that is true or not.
It makes sense why it would work. Cold water keeps the cuticle closed, which is where the fantasy colors live on our hair, however; the more I have read about hair and how water reacts with it. I have started to question this fact a little bit… So I have decided to test out this so-called “fact” to see if hot water really makes the color come out faster…. Or if the type of shampoo we are using is actually the causing factor of fade out.
I will be doing an experiment of this so watch my socials for videos of this experiment.
Trimming hair doesn’t make hair grow faster
We have all heard that trimming your hair makes your hair grow faster and that is why we need to get regular trims.
It is very true that regular trims keep the hair healthy, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will make your hair grow faster.
First off, our hair grows from our scalp. There is a follicle under your skin… If you have ever pulled out a strand of hair and see the little white bulb on the end. That my friend, is the follicle, or the root of your hair.
The blood in your scalp goes to this follicle and supplies oxygen and nutrients to your hair, which helps your hair to grow. Whatever you eat or drink will show up in your hair strands. So the better you are with taking care of yourself nutritionally the better your hair will end up being.
Eat healthy and drink your water!
“But why do I need to get trims if it doesn’t make my hair grow faster?”
Everything we do in lift is causing damage to your hair, this damage is usually called split ends. These split ends start small, starting at the ends of your hair, but if you don’t cut these off they will continue up the strand of your hair.
Split ends will end up breaking off if you don’t cut them off. Regular trims will keep you in control of how much hair you want to lose.
Air drying isn’t always better
I, as a hairstylist, have heard over and over of people that are trying to get their hair healthier so they are using less heat.
Perfect! Beautiful! I love this!
This is a very good idea, but a lot of people include blow drying into that category. I was also a part of that group of people that believed that…
That was until I found another hairstylist on YouTube, Manes by Mell, she had posted a video of Brad Mondo reviewing one of her TikTok videos… In this video she stated that air drying your hair could be worse than blow drying your hair.
Hair dryers can cause damage to the hair, but from the research it only causes damage to the outer layer, the cuticle. The cortex of the hair is untouched. The damage that is caused also depends on how hot you have the blow dryer and how close you have it to your hair.
The cuticle of the hair is there as a protection for the cortex of the hair.
There was only damage found in the cortex of the hair in the groups that only air dried their hair.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather have damage found on the cuticle of my hair, rather than the cortex.
Plus, as long as, you keep the blow dryer on a lower temperature, keep it continually moving as you dry, and keep it about 15 centimeters away from your hair. Your hair is going to be good with minimal damage to your hair.
Go read more if you don’t believe me.

Purple shampoo doesn’t brighten hair
Purple shampoo is a tool you can use at home to keep your already lightened hair out of the brassy tones.
Remember, our hair has underlying pigments of red, orange, or yellow.
These colors will show through depending on the lightness of your hair.
Your hair will always go back to being warm because that is it’s natural state… This is where purple shampoo comes in handy.
As your color (toner) starts to fade, the yellow or brassy tones will start to show in your hair. Purple shampoo is a good tool to help you keep your hair on the cooler side in between hair appointments.
Your purple shampoo will NOT make your hair brighter or lighter.
-It is simply there to keep the tones cooler
Your purple shampoo should NOT be used daily.
-This isn’t a cleansing shampoo and can make your hair dull from too much purple. (being over-toned) Purple shampoo is also more drying to the hair due to the higher PH level.
Your purple shampoo can strip your toner
-Purple shampoo has a higher PH level so that it will open up the cuticle and allow the purple tones to enter the strands of your hair. This means that your toner will fade faster the more you use purple shampoo.
You don’t need heat protectant if you’re not heat styling
Heat protectants are the best way to keep your hair healthy and safe from any heat styling, but did you know that….. You should also be protecting your hair from the sun…
The sun has the power to lighten our hair, yes. That’s where the natural highlights come from. This will be more prevalent in the naturally lighter hair colors, but it is still happening to those that have black hair.
This also means that the sun is going to change your professionally colored hair as well. Protect that hair. Avoid the sun being directly on your hair… As well as the sun lightening our hair, the sun also causes protein loss in our hair, this is making our hair more fragile the more that it is exposed to the sun’s rays. Fragile hair means more breaking….
UVB rays are about 2-5 times stronger than that of UVA rays. So protect your hair! Use those heat protectants, especially ones that have that UVA and UVB protection. (Celestite Protection Elixir)
If your hair has prolonged exposure to the sun, UVA and UVB rays can damage the outside cover of the hair strand, called the cuticle, says dermatologist Wilma Bergfeld, MD.
“Sun damage can come in the forms of discoloration, dry and brittle strands, broken or split ends, thinning and frizziness,” says Dr. Bergfeld. “Damaged hair has a dry look and feel, is unmanageable and won’t hold a curl or style. Damaged hair usually dries quickly, too.”
All hair types are prone to damage, no matter the color or texture.

Washing one a week is “best”
If you’ve been alive recently, you’ve probably heard that washing less is better
Hairstylists recommend not washing your hair as often because it helps prolong the color. But Tricologists have a different look on scalp health and how often you should be washing.
I need to make this VERY CLEAR
✨ There is not a set time span that will be perfect for everyone. ✨
So experimenting and figuring out what works best for you and your health and scalp health is the best thing to do.
No one knows your hair like you, not even your hairstylist.
“You should wash your hair whenever your scalp feels greasy, dirty or smelly, regardless of your hair type,” according to Guy, founder of My Hair Doctor.
Washing too little causes build up of products, dirt, oils, bacteria, dead skin cells.
Washing too much can over stimulate the oil glands and cause your hair to get more oily quicker.

Skipping a wash doesn’t mean that you're not showering. Please still shower.
Skipping a wash could even mean you’re getting your head wet in the shower, but you aren’t using shampoo.
The type of shampoo you are using is very important. Your shampoo could be stripping everything from your hair and scalp because it is too harsh of a shampoo.
I promise you, getting a good shampoo can change your life!
